Daghestan set to host first Russian weightlifting championships

Makhachkala, August 19, 2014. For the first time in its history, Daghestan will host Russian weightlifting championships in 2015, which was agreed on today with Vice-President of the Russian weightlifting federation Maxim Agapitov who is visiting Daghestan.

A fortnight ago, Daghestan ministry of physical culture and sports submitted to the president of the Russian weightlifting federation Sergei Syrtsov an official request to consider Daghestan as a contender for the national championships. A day ahead of the Russian championships-2014 in Grozny, Agapitov inspected the Ali Aliyev sports palace located between Makhachkala and Kaspiysk which is to host the 2015 championships.

Deputy minister of physical culture Zainal Salautdinov and head of the Daghestan weightlifting federation Adilkhan Ganakaev who initiated holding the championships in Daghestan showed the guest the whole sports palace. "The Ali Aliyev palace is an awesome sports complex; I think that with local authorities’ support, we will be able to hold the championships on the level."- Maxim Agapitov commented.

Later, the vice-president met with head coach of Daghestan wrestling team Sazhid Sazhidov (Daghestan is also a contender for the Russian wrestling championships-2015) and Daghestan minister of sports Magomed Magomedov, who assured that, "we have everything we need to hold the tournament at the highest level. The Ali Aliyev sports palace has already hosted competitions as such in other sports. If held here, these championships will prove a memorable event for Dagestanis."
