Daghestan freestyle wrestler wins a medal at World Student Championship

Makhachkala, July 9, 2014. Daghestani sportsman Shamil Osmanov became a silver medalist at the World Students’ Freestyle Wrestling Championship in Hungary on July 8, the website wrestdag.ru reports.

The Russian wrestler obtained a silver medal in the weight category up to 74 kg. Osmanov started the championship having gained a victory over Romanian Mariusz Atofani. In the next combat, he defeated Ilgiz Dzhakupbekov from Kyrgyzstan with a score of 7-0. And, in the semifinals he defeated Turk Musa Gyurbuz with a score of 8:5. Unfortunately, Osmanov lost to American Tyler Caldwell in the final and took silver.

At the beginning of competitions, another Dagestani Badawi Magomedov performed as a part of the Russian team. In the semifinals, he lost to American Dustin Kilgore and did not gain a bronze medal in the battle against the host sportsman Michal Sabo.

Today, Daghestani athletes Shamil Magomedov (70 kg) and Magamedkamil Huseynov (up to 125 kg), acting for the Russian team will compete.  The competitions involving athletes from 15 countries will come to the end on July 12.
