Dagestani sportsmen win at Festival of Culture and Sports of Caucasian peoples

Makhachkala, September 28, 2015. Dagestani athletes have won the Festival of Culture and Sports of the Caucasian peoples for the first time. This was announced at the solemn gala concert dedicated to the completion of the forum. The teams from Kabardino-Balkaria and the Chechen Republic took te second and the third places respectively.

Let us remind, the competitions, attended by over 200 participants from all regions of the Northern Caucasus, were held in 12 types of sports: track-and-field meets, arm wrestling, tug of war, moving on stilts, powerlifting, archery, wrestling and others.

Dagestan Prime Minister Abdussamad Gamidov awarded the winners of the competition. The sports teams were awarded with diplomas, prizes and trophies.
In an interview with journalists, Dagestan minister of physical culture and sports Magomed Magomedov noted that the main purpose of the Festival of Culture and Sports of the Caucasian peoples held in Makhachkala was to strengthen fraternal relationships among the regions of the Northern Caucasus.

"First of all, of course, I would like to mention the friendly atmosphere prevailed throughout the day. As for the sport competitions, I can say that Dagestan athletes have defended the honor of our republic. Dagestan is a sport region, and today our sportsmen have proved it once again.

Dagestani sportsmen obtained the top places in all kinds of competitions. They were leading in 10 of the 12 competitions and only in the belt wrestling and jumping, they took the second place. It should be noted that Dagestani athletes were preparing for the competition all this year, and the result became expected. Dagestan Head Ramazan Abdulatipov proposed to expand the list of regions participating in the festival and to enter the common Caucasian level, so that we will start working in this direction soon ", - the minister stated.

The creative teams from all regions of the North Caucasus Federal District performed within the colorful gala concert dedicated to the festival closing ceremony.
