Dagestan athletes obtain 8 medals at Olympic Games in Rio

Makhachkala, August 22, 2016. Dagestani sportsmen won 8 medals at Summer Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro on August 5 to 21, two of which are golds, 5 - bronzes. More than 20 sportsmen, the natives of Dagestan, presented seven countries in Rio.

Dagestani Abdulrashid Sadulayev who left no chance to his opponents in freestyle wrestling in the weight category up to 86 kg became the first gold medalist. The trainee of Makhachkala sports school named after Gamid Gamidov, acting for the Russian national team, was considered as the main contender for the gold at the Olympics.

Having obtained two titles of World Champion, the gold medal of the European Championship and the first European Games, Sadulayev, defeated all his rivals continuing his victorious path in sports career.

Taekwondo practitioner Radik Isayev became the second native of Dagestan obtaining the gold. His medal went to the Azerbaijani team and became the only gold medal at the Olympics-2016. Isayev was the best in the weight category over 80 kg.

The six bronze medals at the Games were brought by the freestyle wrestlers Sharip Sharipov (up to 86 kg, Azerbaijan), Magomed Ibragimov (up to 97 kg, Uzbekistan), Albert Saritov (up to 97 kg, Romania), Ibragim Saidov (up to 125 kg, Belarus), Javid Gamzatov (up to 85 kg, Belarus) in Greco-Roman wrestling, Patimat Abakarova (up to 49 kg, Azerbaijan) in Taekwondo.
