Boxers from 12 countries confirm participation in Umakhanov tournament

Makhachkala, July 29, 2015. Boxers from 12 countries have confirmed their participation in the XVII International tournament in memory of the outstanding state and political figure, Magomed-Salam Umakhanov, which will be held September 6-13 at the Palace of Sports named after Ali Aliyev in Kaspiysk.

This was announced today, July 29, by the representatives of the organizing committee on preparation and holding of the forthcoming sporting event in the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports RD.

The Ministry officials noted that the application for participation in the tournament was sent to the representatives of sports delegations from Poland, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Bulgaria, Sweden, as well as from different regions of Russia. Two combined teams will represent Dagestan at the tournament.

Noteworthy, like last year, the boxers, who had experience of performing in the Olympics, World and European championships will participate in the tournament.

The judge of the upcoming competition, the director of the Republican specialized youth sports school of Olympic reserve boxing name M-C. Umahanov Shirvani Kurbanov said that women will take part in the tournament for the first time in the history.

"Women's weight categories have been included virtually in all the major tournaments held in the Russian Federation. This decision was taken by the Boxing Federation of Russia with a view to promote and develop women's boxing.
