Water supply system in Dagestan needs upgrading

Makhachkala, November 25, 2016. The water supply system in Dagestan is in urgent need for modernization. It is the primary task facing the republican authorities, the deputy Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities of Russia Andrei Chibis told the journalists after the governmental sitting in Makhachkala devoted to the issues of development of the housing and communal services sector in the region.

"Currently, the urgent modernization of the water supply system is the primary task facing the republican authorities. We must provide consumers with good quality water. The current situation with the water treatment need to be fixed. The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities of Russia and the Federal Service will monitor the progress of the work..." - Chibis is quoted saying.  

According to the press service of the republican government, the Head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov, commenting on results of the meeting, noted that the parties considered the current state of housing and communal services in Makhachkala and the other towns of Dagestan. "Today, we have given instructions period to a number of executives to address the water supply issues within a three-month. Caring for the health of citizens and the stability in Dagestan are the issues of significant importance. I mean, first of all, that all things we undertake should conform to federal standards and laws" - Abdulatipov said.

Recall, from October 27 to November 4, several hundred people in Makhachkala were hospitalized with acute intestinal infection after drinking water. Among them many children. The Investigative Committee instituted criminal proceedings in connection with the mass poisoning of residents of Makhachkala.
