Veteran of the Great Patriotic War from Dagestan celebrates his 100th anniversary

The resident of one of the suburbs of Makhachkala, the veteran of the Finnish and Great Patriotic War Tagir Tagirov celebrated centenary with his family, the press service of Makhachkala Mayor’s Office informed.

All the events scheduled for this significant day had to be canceled due to the difficult epidemiological situation in the region. The chairman of the Council of Veterans of the city of Makhachkala, Zaur Abasaliev, came to congratulate the veteran on his birthday, and presented the hero of the day with a commemorative medal, as well as cash incentives from the head of the city of Makhachkala, Salman Dadaev.

The mayor of the city himself, in order not to jeopardize the health of the veteran, contacted Tagirov via video link, congratulated him and wished good health and long life. Tagir Tagirov, who is a native of Gunib municipal district of Dagestan began his military service in July 1940, when the Gunib military enlistment office urged him to execute duty for the Fatherland.

The veteran returned home only 7 years later, having experienced all the hardships of the war, from wounds to captivity and a concentration camp. After the war, he honestly worked all his life as an accountant. He and his wife Tavus Idarmacheva, with whom they lived for more than 63 years of marriage, raised 3 children.
