Makhachkala, December 10, 2014. Two Dagestan attractions were included in the list of the North Caucasus’ 7 Wonders following the results of the national competition of public recognition "7 Wonders of North Caucasus" taking place at www.100skfo.ru in June-November, 2014. They are the Naryn-Kala citadel (Derbent) and the Sary-Kum dune (Kumtorkala region).

It was a competition to promote unique destinations, firm patriotism, and establish a permanent interest in the North Caucasian Federal District as a territory rich in natural and ethno-cultural potential for developing domestic and international tourism. Any social network account owner could once a day vote for an attraction.

Now that the contest is over, the 7 Wonders of the North Caucasus are: Elbrus – the highest mountain in Europe (also selected as the tourist symbol of the North Caucasus), the Akhmad-Hajji Kadyrov mosque named "Heart of Chechnya" – the largest mosque in Europe, the Naryn-Kala citadel – the oldest fortress in Russia, the Sary-Kum – the highest sand mountain in Europe, the Caucasian Mineral Waters – the biggest balneotherapeutic health resort in Russia, the Djairakh gorge - the largest open-air museum in the North Caucasus, and the Dargav necropolis – the largest "city of the dead" in the North Caucasus.

Further, the project will also elaborate and promote a new excursion and cognitive tourist route named "7 Wonders of North Caucasus".
