Scientists from Moscow and Netherlands to study Andian language in Dagestan

Makhachkala, August 2, 2017. The young scientists fr om Moscow and the Netherlands will study the Andian language in Dagestan, the press service of the Humanities and Pedagogy College of Makhachkala reports. The group includes Timur Maysak, the senior researcher of the Caucasian Languages Department of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Samir Ferhees, a graduate student at the Higher School of Economics, a citizen of the Netherlands.

Maysak and Ferhees narrated about the purpose of their arrival in Dagestan during a visit to the Humanities and Pedagogy College, where they met with the leadership of the educational institution and the journalists.

Within a month, the scientists plan to visit several villages of Botlikh district. On August 2 they will go to the village of Rikvani, where they intend to study the Andian language with its immediate speakers.
During the meeting, the candidate of philological sciences Timur Maysak admitted that he was interested in Dagestani languages since his student years. Recall the Dutch Samira Ferhees had visited Dagestan two times already. In the beginning of September in 2016 and in April 2017, she met with staff and students of the Humanities and Pedagogy College, as well as visited several villages in Botlikhsky district.

Ferhees graduated from the University of Amsterdam. At his very moment she is a graduate student of the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, wh ere she is engaged in a comparative study of the Nakh-Daghestanian languages.
