Russian Parliament adopts bill on deprivation of citizenship of persons involved in terrorist and extremist activities

Makhachkala, June 28, 2017. The State Duma of the Russian Federation approved the draft law on deprivation of the Russian citizenship of those convicted of crimes of a terrorist nature in the first reading. In the first reading, the deputies of the lower house of Russia’s Parliament adopted bill No. 156667-7 "On Amendments to Articles 22 and 38 of the Federal Law" On Citizenship of the Russian Federation "(on clarifying the grounds for revoking decisions on citizenship of the Russian Federation)."

The adopted document provides for the deprivation of citizenship of persons committed at least one of the crimes provided for in Art. 277-279 and 360 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, if their commission is connected with the implementation of terrorist activities.

The initiative had been primarily put forward by the Head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov and later approved by the country's leadership. The adoption of such norms will play a big role in combating terrorist and extremist activities, the law will significantly improve the level of security for the Russians – experts say
