Russian Geographical Society carries out second expedition to Nogai steppe

Makhachkala, May 8, 2015. The Russian Geographical Society’s expedition "Eurasia’s Steppe World" headed by Vice President Alexander Chibiliov visited Dagestan’s Nogai region for the second time on May 2-3, a source in the society told RIA Dagestan.

The expedition ran through Nogai region’s most interesting natural objects. On the first day they visited the sights Terekli-Mekteb village, then – Chervlenye Buruny village. In the local secondary school they met with members of the Nogai department of the Russian Geographical Society’s Dagestan branch where young local historians took part along with their teachers.

It was a popular informative and educational conversation where participants recognized that a number of Nogai natural objects are most valuable monuments of nature and Nogai national heritage which not only need protection, but also have to be researched.

They paid particular attention to approving the conservation status of Juniper Groves. A. Chibiliov said that basic parameters and characteristics of the groves are consistent with those required to give this monument of nature an official status of the national park of federal significance.

After the talk, the delegation went to the Juniper Grove – a unique monument of nature in Dagestan. During the expedition, participants got acquainted with both local vegetation and wildlife.
