Makhachkala, September 11, 2014. In an interview with RIA "Dagestan", the head of Daghestan office of the Russian consumer protection agency Rospotrebnadzor, Daghestan chief sanitary doctor Eleanora Omarieva spoke about the fuss around the Ebola virus in the context of the forthcoming Hajj.

She said that according to World Health Organization experts, the risk is low with being infected during the Hajj, since the virus may infect a person through a direct contact with infected person’s body fluids and secretions. Still, Hajj travelers should always be vigilant about their and everyone else’s health. The WHO stays away from recommending restrictions over international travel.

The Ebola virus is transmitted from human to humans through a close contact with blood, secretions, organs, or other body fluids of infected animals. It travels in communities through a close contact with infected persons’ blood secretions, organs or other body fluids (through a damaged skin or mucosa) and with people infected with such fluids.

Healthcare workers get often infected while treating Ebola and Ebola-suspected patients. Such things occur as a result of neglecting strict rules of infection control at close contacts with infected patients.
