The Institute of Ecology and Sustainable Development of Dagestan State University in partnership with the Compass Foundation for the Support and Development of Environmental Initiatives have begun work on a programme to preserve the Caspian seal. They plan to involve local fishermen, students and volunteers into the research work since early 2023. "The program that we start with the "Compass" Foundation implies organization of transboundary monitoring of the seal population to assess its actual number. We will also engage in ecological monitoring and study the causes of animal deaths" - Alimurad Gadzhiev, the director of the Institute says.
