Makhachkala, March 13, 2014. A public rally to support the residents of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea was held in Makhachkala, Daghestani capital. The event was initiated by the Joint Organization of Independent Daghestan Trade Unions. Makhachkala residents and guests fr om Daghestan regions gathered on Rhodope Boulevard to voice support for the Crimeans and solidarity with their willingness to determine their fate which is inextricably intertwined with Russia.

The idea of the rally found a warm response among workers, students, institutions, public, veteran, and youth organizations, and departments of Russian political parties. All Daghestan nationalities participated in the event. People came with Russian flags and slogans "Daghestan for Crimea", "Fascism Won’t Work!", "For Crimea’s Future!", portraits of prominent Daghestani, Soviet Union Heroes Ametkhan Sultan and Magomed- Zagid Abdulmanapov who had defended the holy Crimean land from the enemy during the World War II.

"In World War II, thousands of Daghestanis gave their lives freeing Ukraine from the Nazi occupation. In Crimea, they will erect a monument to the Soviet Union Heroes who had fought for Sevastopol, Magomed-Zagid Abdulmanapov anong them. The Russian people will do their best to protect the Ukrainian people. Everyone is talking about Crimea joining Russia, and I'm talking about Crimea returning to its homeland. The fascist grin spurred by the US finds itself not only in Ukraine today. We need to be vigilant to protect our homeland. We must be united; we, Daghestanis, have always been with Russia, we will always be faithful to it,"- said Member of the Elders Council at Daghestani Head Omar Murtuzaliev.

Daghestanis took the events in Ukraine to heart and immediately responded to Ramazan Abdulatipov’s decision to provide effective support to their compatriots in Crimea. March 6, they sent 80 tons of humanitarian aid to Crimea, which is food, computers, office equipment, etc. March 8, a convoy of heavy trucks arrived in Crimea wh ere it was gratefully accepted.
