Pre-revolutionary Dagestan represented in photographs in History Museum

Makhachkala, June 25, 2017. The work on the project has been conducted for more than 10 years. These days, the Municipal Museum of History hosts an exhibition project "Dagestan. Portrait of the Nation", the Mayor’s Office representative says.

The exhibition includes photos of auls and cities of Dagestan, the ceremonial portraits and ethnographical types of peoples of Dagestan in the second half of the 19th, the beginning of the 20th centuries.
According to Zarema Dadaeva, the director of the Museum, for the first time it was possible to put together such a rich historical material: "This is a kind of photo chronicle and photo archives of Dagestan pre-revolutionary life, a documentary source on history, culture, ethnography, architecture, valuable material in the study of a bygone era. The exhibition consists of collections of various museums in Russia, the National Museum of Georgia. Janashia, the Tbilisi City History Museum, the National Archives of Georgia, the New York Public Library of the United States and the private and family photo-collections" - Dadaeva noted.

The unique photographic material has been collected bit by bit. Approx. 1500 photos, 300 of which are presented at the exhibition have detailed historical explanations prepared by specialists.
