The oldest synagogue in the Caucasus will be restored in Dagestan. The Jewish community representatives and the mayor of Buynaksk discussed some issues related to the town synagogue. It has long been closed for the worshippers, as its building is in a dilapidated condition: the foundation crippled and the walls sagged.

The meeting participants also touched upon the restoration of the cemetery wall.  According to available information, the restoration of the building will not require large expenditures. The synagogue in Buynaksk was built in 1862 and is the oldest in the Caucasus. Earlier a fundraising campaign for its repair was launched.
