Moscow hosts Derbent-2000 photo exhibition

Makhachkala, September 16, 2015. On September 14, the photo exhibition "Derbent – 2000. Crossroads of Civilizations" opened in Chistoprudny Boulevard in Moscow, the permanent representation of the republic of Dagestan at the Russian Federation President reports.

The exhibition, located in the historic center of Moscow, Chistoprudny Boulevard near the monument to A.S. Griboyedov, includes two dozen platforms with views of Derbent and sights of the ancient city, made at different times by different photographers. The exposition presents the citadel Naryn-Kala, Juma mosque, the building of the Jewish synagogue, an Orthodox church and many other objects of cultural and historical heritage.

Opening the photo exhibition, the Permanent Representative of Dagestan at the Russian President Zumrud Mugutdinova reminded the audience that Derbent was one of the oldest urban settlements on the territory of Russia and in the world at whole; its architectural monuments were included in the World Heritage List of UNESCO.

"Derbent is a center of the formation and distribution of the world's three Abrahamic religions - Islam, Judaism and Christianity, the guardian of the world of spirituality. Here, not only representatives of different religions, but also of different nationalities have been living for centuries. I can say that the tolerance policy adopted today throughout the civilized world has been developing in Derbent for two thousand years. The experience of co-existence of traditions, cultures of peoples of different faiths was transmitted to the descendants.

Derbent  is our pride, our glory, one of the most famous centers of Eurasian civilization, the city of artists, scientists, poets, workers, heroes with unique history, embodied in architectural monuments,"-Zumrud Mugutdinova noted.

The expert of Research Center "History of Diasporas" of historical faculty of Moscow State University University Vahram Karapetyan, the member of the Public Chamber of Russia Aygun Magomedov and Chairman of the Public Council at the Permanent Mission of Dagestan Hadzhimurad Gajiyev attended the opening ceremony.

It should be noted that, the exhibition is held within the framework of events dedicated to the celebration of the 2000th anniversary of the city of Derbent, and will last until November 14.
