Makhachkala, August 17, 2016. The memorial to journalists from around the world who lost their lives while performing their duties, will soon be erected in Makhachkala. The 16-meters high stela will be constructed in the vicinity to the House of Press in Dagestani capital.

"This is a monument to all the journalists who lost their lives in Russia and around the world. The monument will stand next to the building (the Press House in Makhachkala)", - the chairman of Dagestan Union of Journalists Ali Kamalov said. The funds for the monument will be collected during a crowdfunding campaign.

"There is also a proposal to issue shares, so that everyone can buy a share and say that took part in the construction of the monument too" – Kamalov confessed. In Dagestan since 1992, 19 representatives of media were killed. In total, 1800 journalists work in the region nowadays. The better part of them are the members of the Russian Union of Journalists.
