Makhachkala, May 15, 2014. 100 ponds are to be built in Daghestan by 2015, thus making the republic attractive for anglers, said the deputy head of the West Caspian Territorial Administration of the Russian Federal Fisheries Agency Magomedsultan Aliyev at the roundtable on the draft investment program "100 ponds of Daghestan" held at Daghestan State University today.

The event also brought together DSU Rector Murtazali Rabadanov, the general director of "Daghestan Development Corporation" JSC Alexander Ivanchenko, the director of Daghestan office of the Caspian Fisheries Research Institute Akhma Abdussamadov and other officials.

Opening the event, Magomedsultan Aliyev noted that the fishing industry is to date one of the most critical issues for Daghestan. "Daghestan has unique prerequisites for fishery development. At Soviet times, 30% of the republic's budget came from fish products. Today, this industry is neglected. This is a common problem for the whole North Caucasus today", - he said.

Speaking about implementing the program, M. Aliyev said they were already working on creating a road map. The program implementation will be divided into 5 years involving RUR 500 million. The first stage implies building 100 ponds until 2015; 5 years later, the number of ponds is to reach 500. Each pond will employ 20, providing 2,000 positions in the first year.

"It’s an investment attractive project; there are people already willing to invest their money in it. All fish grown there will be environmentally friendly and therefore competitive. In these reservoirs, we plan to grow species such as trout, silver carp, grass carp, European carp, carp, sturgeon and other fish species,"- he added.
