Makhachkala, March 3, 2015. European famous artist Asiya Alfasi gave two master classes on drawing comics in the Japanese styles commonly known as manga and anime in Makhachkala. Master classes took place in the Center for Continuing Education.

The master-classes were attended by the graduates of the Faculty of Graphic Arts of Dagestan State Pedagogical University. Asiya Alfasi demonstrated how to represent ideas in the form of comics.

"We are creating comic books devoted to different nations, cultures and religions. We want Dagestan artists to create their comics narrated about their native republic. We plan to publish a book devoted to the Caucasian republics being a part of the Russian Federation. I think that teens love to draw, and we want them to express their opinions through drawing comics, "- Anna Voronkova, the curator of international projects of the international festival of comics KomMissia said.

During the master class Asiya demonstrated how to tell stories in a graphic arts, how to keep the reader's attention.
Asiya is the first Muslim comics painter that draws comics in the style of Japanese manga. Through comics she recounts the story of her life in Libya in 80-90s, about her challenges and triumphs.

"There is not any religious propaganda. Through the main character of comics – a young girl in hijab, the painter talks about Islam. For example, they say that Muslims do not like to listen to music because it is haram. In one comics story there is a little girl who gives money to a street musician. That is, Asiya wanted to show that all people are the same, but have different cultures and we don’t need to be afraid ", - A. Voronkov explained.

Asiya came to Russia to meet with Muslim women in our republic, to learn how they live and what they are interested in.
