Koran to be taught in Dagestan prisons

Makhachkala, July 22, 2016. In Dagestan, the prison inmates may start studying the Koran, a source in the republican Committee on Freedom of Conscience and Cooperation with Religious Organizations informs. The Committee executives had conducted negotiations with the top officers of the republican branch of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia.

It was agreed that the prison inmates would be granted a possibility to attend special lectures organized by the representatives of Muslim religious board of Dagestan once a month. The lectures will contain information related to the spiritual and moral upbringing of a personality.

According to a representative of the Federal Penitentiary Service, the spiritual assistance is expected to positively affect the behavior of prisoners, as well as to help them to socialize before exit to freedom.
