Makhachkala, October 28, 2015. The Crimean authorities intend to initiate the process of recognition of Kerch as the most ancient city of Russia, thus taking over the palm of Derbent, the chief architect of  the city Alexander Kuznetsov said.

"We are now engaged in determining the date of foundation of Kerch. The city is the oldest city in Russia, we believe. In comparison with 2000-year-old Derbent, the history of Kerch goes back to about 2600 - 2700 years.

If we will soon carry out an appropriate historical conference to confirm the age of the city in a scientific way, then we can reach the federal level with the program of celebration for the most ancient city of Russia". Kuznetsov is counting on the fact that the assignment of status to the city can significantly increase its attractiveness for the tourists.
