The prices for medical masks have risen in almost all regions of Russia, the deputy head of the Federal Antimonopoly service (FAS) Andrey Tsarikovskiy said. The price increase was initiated by the pharmacies, the wholesale suppliers and the manufacturers.

“The highest retail price was registered in the Republic of Dagestan — 650%. The Antimonopoly Agency continues to closely monitor the situation with the prices of medical masks. In the event that we identify abuses of a dominant position by large manufacturers or wholesalers, as well as conspiracies and cartels, we will apply all antitrust measures, including very severe penalties for the cartel” — Tsarikovsky is quoted saying.

Earlier, on February 5, the Russian President Vladimir Putin, commenting on the report of deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova about sharp increase in prices for medicines and personal protective equipment in one of the networks, called for the withdrawal of licenses from such pharmacies. According to him, the pharmacy network in Russia is extensive and “somewhat redundant” if several institutions are closed, then there will be no negative consequences for the citizens.
