Makhachkala, June 30, 2014. On June 28, the Russian emergency ministry’s charter flight with refugees from Ukraine arrived in Daghestan. 116 refugees aged 2 or older came to Daghestan from Rostov region. Most refugees are from Donetsk and Luhansk regions. They were all initially housed in hotels and campgrounds in Rostov region.

It wasn’t the only Saturday's emergency ministry’s flight from Crimea to Mineralnye Vody. 134 more Ukraine residents are waiting to be taken to Russia on board another emergency ministry’s plane.

It’s been quite an influx of refugees from the Eastern Ukraine since early summer because of the political unrest. The Russian emergency ministry organized "air ferries" to evacuate refugees from Russian bordering regions to other regions with temporary shelters already prepared for the people. In Daghestan, they prepared the housing in resorts and tourist centers such as "Dolphin" (Makhachkala) and "Golden Sands" (Derbent region).

1st Deputy Daghestan Prime Minister Anatoly Karibov, the head of the emergency ministry’s general board Nariman Kazimagamedov , Daghestan Health Minister Tanka Ibragimov, the minister of press and information Aznaur Adzhiev, and other officials were the ones to meet the first plane with refugees on board.

As told by Anatoly Karibov, by now, 146 refugees have arrived in Daghestan – 75 people were sheltered by Daghestani families, 62 people were housed at the sea shore in peace and comfort. "People are provided with medical and psychological care, food, clothing and security. To date, we have facilities enough to shelter 250 refugees. Later, we’ll be creating additional amenities for accepting refugees," he said adding that Daghestan leadership will also support those who would want to get permanent Russian and Daghestan residence.
