Makhachkala, October 8, 2014. On October 9, on the World Sight Day, Daghestanis will be able to check their eyesight and consult a doctor, a source in Daghestan medical prevention center told RIA "Dagestan". 8 am – 6 pm, Daghestan ophthalmic hospital will host an Open Day where everyone will be able to have his or her eyes examined and get some expert advice with no ID or health insurance card.

The campaign aims at making optical correction affordable to those in need, especially among the poor who can’t afford getting ophthalmic assistance.
The centre’s staff see the causes of poor eye health not only in patients’ age but also in smoking, poor nutrition and bad environment. Providing affordable optical correction – glasses – remains the major eye health maintenance tool.

The World Sight Day has been celebrated every second Thursday of October since 1998. That was an idea of the World Health Organization as part of the Global anti-blindness program "Vision 2020: a right to sight". This day aims at drawing all governments’ attention to the problems of eyesight protection and providing access to health care for those in need.
