Dagestani culture and languages Day to be celebrated in republic

Makhachkala, July 21, 2016. The Day of Dagestani culture and languages has been established in the republic at the initiative of the Head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov. The holiday will be celebrated annually on October, 21.

The idea for the establishment of the Day of the Dagestan culture and languages has been discussed by the members of the Expert Council at the Ministry for National Policy of the Republic of Dagestan. The regional language policy specialists have always paid special attention to the need for systematization of activities aimed at conservation and development of Dagestani languages with the involvement of local municipal administrations, educational and cultural institutions.

Annually, on October, 21 the authorities will render monetary support to the initiatives aimed at involvement of young people to the study of native languages, creating movies and cartoons on Dagestan languages with special subtitles, the translation of classic works of world literature in the national languages, the creation of educational linguistic concepts for urban and rural schools of Dagestan, etc.

The issues related to the development of a set of measures for the forecasting, monitoring of language needs, the cooperation of representatives of non-governmental organizations with the scientific community on conservation and development of the newly created written and unwritten languages of Dagestan have become particularly relevant in connection with the governmental decree establishing the new holiday.

"Dagestan as a unique multilanguage region certainly deserves the institution of the Day of Dagestani culture and languages. The name will emphasize the idea of the traditional multiculturalism and, at the same time, the historically conditioned unity of the peoples of Dagestan. The festive day will draw attention to the languages of Dagestan, arrange their propaganda in better way and raise interest in them from the residents of the republic and those living abroad"- the republican minister for national policy Tatiana Gamaley said commenting on the initiative of Dagestani Head.
