Dagestani awarded posthumously

Makhachkala, October 2, 2017. The Head of Tuva region Sholban Kara-ool has awarded the 26-year-old native of Dagestan Rashid Salahbekov, who died while rescuing a Tuvan girl drowning in the Moscow river with the Order of the Republic of Tuva. The award has been handed over to Rashid’s mother during a meeting with Salakhbekov's parents in Khasavyurt district of Dagestan.

"He committed a heroic deed for which the whole multinational people of Tuva is grateful and sincerely regret the tragedy", - the Head of Tuva is quoted saying. In turn, the Head of Dagestan, Ramazan Abdulatipov, presented the hero's father with the Amet-Khan Sultan medal "For Contribution to the Patriotic Education of Youth".

Recall, the tragedy occurred in June 2017 in Serebryany Bor, where the young man was resting in the company of friends. Having seen the girl drowning in the river, Rashid Salakhbekov rushed to the rescue. The young man succeeded in pushing the girl out of water to the shore but he could not save himself.
