Makhachkala, October 30, 2015. The members of Dagestan Economic Council raised the issue of food security in the region on the last sitting chaired by the Head of the republic R.Abdulatipov.

"The positive dynamics reached in the republic must not grow complacent. We have an industry that is still in poor condition. The food safety - is one of the most important elements of national security. Therefore, in this area, even with the positive trend, we have to work hard further" - R.Abdulatipov said.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan Battal Batalov noted that the index of food self-sufficiency does not refer to all food items.

Thus, vegetables display the maximum index (335.6%), potatoes (124.4%). Whereas, the self-sufficiency in fish (7.8%) and eggs (28.3%) remains at the fairly low level. The processing enterprises should assist in recovering food security on separate production items. However, according to Batalov, only one enterprise - "Kikuninsky cannery", JSC really operates in Dagestan. The republican authorities pin great hopes on Indian investments called to increase the production capacity of the JSC.
