Dagestan Native Language Center to be established in republic

Makhachkala, August 24, 2016. The Federal Target Program "Strengthening the unity of the Russian nation and ethno-cultural development of the peoples of Russia for 2014-2020" envisages the foundation of Dagestan Native Language Center  in 2016. The initiator of the project is the republican Ministry of National Policy.

The Centre is expected to take over the function of organizing expeditions to the districts of the republic for the collection of the so-called "raw" material. Besides, the Center officers will record all the dialectal variations of Dagestan languages, to create the bank of the text, audio and video materials.

Currently, the basic language studies in the republic are carried out by the Institute of Language, Literature and Art, Dagestan Scientific Center, Russian Academy of Sciences, the specialized departments of Dagestan State University and Dagestan State Pedagogical University.

Apart from the research activity, the Centre for the Study of native languages will be engaged in the work on popularization of native languages in schools and students’ environment, the provision of information and methodological assistance and implementation of a variety of projects aimed at the preservation of the linguistic heritage of the peoples of Dagestan.
