Dagestan meets Border Victory Relay

Makhachkala, May 5, 2015. Dagestan is hosting the Victory Relay dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, reports the press service of the Russia FSB Border Guard Department in Dagestan.

Initiated by the Russian Border Service, the relay runs along the borders of the CIS states. The decision of holding the relay was taken at the Council of CIS Heads of State in December 2012.

The event simultaneously started on February 2, 2015, in Brest, Belarus, and Murmansk, Russia. The two relay symbols headed towards each other by different routes. The first route ran along the western borders of Belarus, Russia and Armenia. The second one, launched in Murmansk, followed the polar region, the Far East, Altai, the borders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. Now both the routes are to meet in Dagestan.

Today, the Victory Relay will be taken by the Russian FSB Border Guard Department in Dagestan. Within twenty days, the relay symbol will visit all Dagestan’s border areas.

May 23, Dagestan will receive the second symbol of the relay from Azerbaijan, and the two cups will be taken further to Moscow.
