Dagestan establishes Medal of Amet-Khan Sultan

Makhachkala, October 27, 2015. The Medal of Amet-Khan Sultan will be established in Dagestan, the deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Dagestan Ramazan Jafarov said today at the solemn meeting in Makhachkala dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the famous test pilot.

"In honor of the 95th anniversary of the distinguished test pilot of the USSR, the Head of Dagestan Ramazan Abdulatipov has issued a decree establishing the medal of Amet-Khan Sultan, the two fold Hero of the Soviet Union.

According to the decree, the Government of the Republic has been instructed to submit the draft law on the establishment of the state award - the Medal of Amet-Khan Sultan for the contribution in the patriotic education of youth to the National Assembly of the Republic", - Ramazan Jafarov said.

Amet-Khan Sultan is one of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. From the very beginning, he participated in the battles against the Nazi invaders. His latest victory he won on April 25, 1945 in the skies over Berlin, when he shot down the thirtieth German airplane.

During the war, Sultan Amet-Khan made 603 sorties (70 of them - to attack the manpower and equipment of the enemy), participated in 150 air fights, in which personally shot down 30 aircrafts and 19 enemy aircrafts within a flying group.
