Makhachkala, June 27, 2018. The III International Conference "Keeping traditions to become modern" - "Gender contracts, the features of gender equality and gender issues in the sphere of family relations in traditional cultures of the Russian Caucasus" was held June 25 - 27 in the Republican National Library named after R. Gamzatov in Makhachkala.

The representatives from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, as well as from the regions of Russia took part in the forum, the press service of the Center for Gender Policy of the Republic informs.
The conference is focuses on the issues of involvement of women in political and public life, the search, identification, compilation and dissemination of best practices of activities of non-profit organizations dealing with gender issues in polyethnic and polyconfessional societies.

The deputy Chairman of the Committee on Family, Women and Children of the State Duma Oksana Pushkina, the deputy Minister for National Policy of the Republic of Dagestan Arsen Makhmudov, the Head of the Department for Work with Civil Society Institutions of the Ministry for National Policy Bakhtiyar Makhmudov and the director general of the Gender Policy Center Khatima Omarova took part in the event.

According to Kh. Omarova, the gender equality requires the deep study of problems of women and men. "The prevalent stereotype of success and strength in society and the excessive social expectations are the reasons for the relatively shorter life duration of men in Russia on average by 10 years" - Omarova said.

Omarova also pointed out that the authorities are reluctant to cooperate with the non-profit organizations, they see competitors in them.

In turn, the representatives of the Ministry for National Policy of Dagestan objected that the authorities are doing their utmost to establish cooperation with the NGOs. Moreover, the Ministry is going to create a school for training non-profit organizations in social design.
