Alley of Dagestani Heroes opens in Moscow

Makhachkala, April 29, 2015. On April 28, Dagestan Permanent Mission at the Russian President unveiled the Alley of Dagestani Heroes on Yauza Boulevard in Moscow, a source in Dagestan Permanent Mission at the Russian President informs the RIA Dagestan.

The event was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The veterans of the Second World War, the staff of the Presidential Administration and Permanent Representatives of the Russian Federation to the North Caucasus Federal District, the members of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, the members of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation as well as the public figures attended the meeting.

The event began with a wreath-laying ceremony by the guard. There was a text memory dedicated to the memory of those who died during World War II and everybody kept a minute of silence.
Having opened a solemn meeting, the acting Plenipotentiary Representative of the Republic of Daghestan at RF President Izumrud Mugutdinova noted:

"About two hundred thousand Dagestanis participated in the Great Patriotic War. 58 Dagestanis were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, 7 soldiers obtained the Order of Glory. More than ten thousands of Dagestani soldiers gave their lives for their Fatherland. They sealed the bonds of friendship among the peoples of our country”.

"The unprecedented feats of the Soviet soldiers are immortalized by prominent poets and composers. One of such piece is the world famous poem by Rasul Gamzatov "White Cranes" - Gaidar Magomedov, the event host, continued. – There are more than 20 monuments to the White Crane erected in different parts of the former Soviet Union. The White Cranes have no nationality, they can be found outside the country: in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Lithuania, Fergana, Lebanon, Palestine, Chile, Nicaragua, Angola, Kuwait, Iraq, Iran - all countries of the world. The image of flying cranes symbolizes the memory of those killed on the battlefield."

In conclusion, Gaidar Magomedov recalled the history – on April 25, 1945, at noon, two Soviet fronts attacked Berlin from the east and south. On May 3, the city fell. On May 9 at 0:43 Moscow time, the act of unconditional surrender of Germany was signed.

In his turn, Dagestan Prime Minister Abdussamad Gamidov in the telegram to the veterans wrote: "The memory of the Great Patriotic War is timeless. An unprecedented feat of defenders of the Motherland is inscribed in the heroic history of our country, as a symbol of resistance, high patriotic spirit, courage, unity and solidarity of the fraternal peoples. We wish you health, long life, peace and prosperity! ".
