Makhachkala, January 2, 2015. In 2014, the total number of orphans under guardianship in Dagestan reached 5,578, the press service of the republican ministry of education and science told RIA Dagestan.

Another 150 children remain in orphanages of the education ministry and 84 children are in the facilities of the ministries of labour and healthcare. The total comes to 5,812 orphans and children left without parental care living in Dagestan.

In 2014, 534 children were taken under guardianship and 66 children were adopted. Like in 2013, guardianship remains the most popular form of foster care this year.

To materially support families adopting children left without parental care, Dagestan Head Ramazan Abdulatipov initiated the already approved republican law "On additional measures to socially support persons adopting or taking under guardianship orphans and children left without parental care from foster care facilities in Dagestan".
