UNESCO officers arrive in Derbent

Makhachkala, February 25, 2015.  On February 24, the 1st deputy Daghestan Prime Minister Anatoly Karibov chaired a meeting on celebration of the 2000th anniversary of the city of Derbent, the press service of Dagestani Head and government’s administration reports.

The official event was attended by Grigory Ordzhonikidze, the executive secretary of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, the President of the Russian National World Heritage Committee, Vladimir Tsvetnov, the director of the department for control, monitoring and licensing of cultural heritage at the Russian Federation Culture Ministry, Tatiana Seledtsova and the Russian ministers of culture from Southern, North-Caucasus and Crimean federal districts.

At the beginning of discussion, Anatoly Karibov expressed his gratitude to guests for their attention and support of the preparations for celebrating the 2000th anniversary of Derbent.

Karibov also reported that the preparation for the anniversary is supported by the RF President and the Government of Russia, with the participation of federal and regional authorities. And, despite the limited time and some problems with the financing of the scheduled activities, much had been carried out.  

In his turn, Grigory Ordzhonikidze informed that the expert’s visit to Derbent was connected with several issues identified at the meeting of the organizing committee, chaired by the federal deputy Russian Prime Minister Alexander Khloponin. Grigory Ordzhonikidze also noted:
"Derbent is a unique city. This city is an example of tolerance and inter-ethnic harmony. We should do everything possible to save this unique heritage for ourselves and for future generations. "

Dagestan minister of culture Zarema Butaeva, Dagestan minister of press and information Aznaur Adzhiev, administration of Derbent, scientists, conservators and experts also attended the meeting.
