Russia's Council of Muftis to spread ideology of moderate Islam in Dagestan

Makhachkala, December 5, 2017. The head of the Council of Muftis and the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Russia Ravil Gaynutdin and the interim leader of Dagestan Vladimir Vasilyev agreed on the joint alignment of the ideology of moderate Islam in the republic through the courses of upgrading skills for imams and educational projects for Muslims. This has been announced by Mufti Gaynutdin following the meeting, which took place on Monday in Moscow Cathedral Mosque.

"We, the Muslim clergy, analyzing the past and the present state of our religious community, came to the conclusion that it is necessary to start building the ideology of moderate Islam in the republic of Dagestan" Ravil Gaynutdin said.

For that purpose, mufti says, the training courses for imams, as well as educational programs for ordinary Muslims and scientific and practical Islamic conferences with the participation of invited theologians from Arab countries and southeast Asia will be organized in the near future in Dagestan.

"Our preachers in the regions should educate their believers who come to the mosques with questions, speak to students, on radio and television, explain the correct understanding of Islam," Gainutdin said. "We will also take into account the interpretations of Islam of our foreign partner colleagues," the head of the Council of Muftis of Russia confessed.

Vladimir Vasilyev pointed out "the great role of the Muslim clergy in solving many urgent problems and situations". Dagestani leader confirmed "the intentions of the republican authorities to interact with Muslim religious associations."
