Sochi, September 20 /RIA "Dagestan"/ Answering reporters' questions at the Sochi-2014 international investment forum, Daghestan Head Ramazan Abdulatipov said that forums like that are critical in developing the region, the North Caucasus area, and the country in whole, says the press service of the Daghestan head and government’s administration.

"We’ve done a great job to prepare for the forum, we’ve checked up what we had done and what we’d like to expose. This is a good regulation of our activities. The forum is a good place for authorities and project managers to establish contacts. This is a good experience. I really think that we should bring businesses to forums like that, not only authorities, because businesses are the ones to think and work.

"Ingushetia President Evkurov and I have agreed to have a joint platform next year, and we’ll have joint projects in economy, culture, etc. We’ve done a lot of work in the North Caucasus and the Southern Federal District, but the integration seems very poor, not enough for the current economic development stage. Today’s economy is integrated, but it’s a large scale interaction. There is a synergistic effect, and that’s what we seem to lack.

"While in Moscow, I learned that the Russian government intends to approve an import substitution plan. Dagestan ought to be a part of it, we should be in time for it," Abdulatipov commented.
"At the moment, Daghestan has potential in producing building materials, too. We are among the first regions in Russia in terms of building material stocks, therefore, that’s a sector we can develop and integrate with our partners. Another sector is vegetable production – a leading sector in the country which we can and ought to actively develop. We also have to develop the transport network – Daghestan has railways, a seaport, an airport, but they all fall short of being economically effective. The same is true with tourism. We offer the basics in tourism, but today tourists seek up-to-date comfort which we must boost. These are the key sectors to develop.

"We ought to make progress and promote our success. There’s a notion of "result management", i.e., you need to initially know exactly what you want to have as the result of implementing your project. I suppose, we are all here today for some reason – we all monitor certain projects. So, today, we need to have a very high organizational level," the Daghestan head said.
