New reservoir with a volume of 50 million cubic meters to be built in Dagestan

The construction of the new Shurdere reservoir with a volume of 50 million cubic meters was discussed on August 13 at the sitting under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Dagestan Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov, the press service of the regional government reports.

The commissioning of the facility will provide high-quality water supply for about 200 thousand people living on the territory of South Dagestan. It will also be possible to organize water replenishment of irrigation systems in a number of settlements, including Derbent, Dagestanskie Ogni and Belidzhi.

According to the deputy chairman, filling and replenishment of the new reservoir will be carried out from the Samur River, then water will be supplied to the Samur-Derbent irrigation canal with a length of about 100 km all year round. The facility is planned to be commissioned in 2023.
