Makhachkala, August 26, 2014. Daghestan Prime Minister Abdussamad Gamidov once again personally inspected the Makhachkala airport runway being reconstructed, the press service of Daghestani Head and government’s administration informs.

Here, they are laying the runway, establishing the drainage facilities, replacing the lighting equipment, installing the new power grids and communication wiring, and building new sewage treatment facilities, a collecting ditch, a patrol road, 7 transformer substations, 4 light towers, a taxiway, and a check-point.

They’ll bring the existing runway to "B" category meaning it will be 45 meters wide and 2,640 meters long. After reconstruction, the airport will be able to admit aircraft like Airbus 320, Boeing 757 and IL-86. It will take 114,000 tons of asphalt concrete to complete the runway 30-40 centimeters thick. The reconstruction follows all international standards, norms and rules by using the latest technology, equipment and advanced materials produced in France, Finland, Germany, and the Czech Republic.

The repairs are scheduled to last from early September to late October – the shortest possible time when the contractor will be working around the clock. So, the prime minister called on Daghestanis to be understanding and patient, because they can’t repair the runway without the airport being temporary closed, "It’s a must-do. In the first place, we need to ensure the aircraft will safely land and take off at the Makhachkala airport runway. As a result, the airport will comply with all international standards of admitting large size aircraft and it will be able to serve a great number of passengers."
