Makhachkala, March 5, 2014. On March 4, the chairman of Daghestan National Assembly Khizri Shikhsaidov held a meeting on how prepared viticulture is for spring planting. The meeting brought together Shikhsaidov’s Deputy Seifulakh Issakov, deputies, the deputy Prime Minister Sharip Sharipov, heads of relevant ministries and agencies, and heads of Daghestani municipalities.

Opening the meeting, Khizri Shikhsaidov noted that Daghestani Head Ramazan Abdulatipov had declared viticulture to be a priority sector of Daghestan economy. In 2013, they collected about 140,000 tons of grapes which is twice the 2012 amount, while in the best years, Daghestan produced up to 380,000 tons of grapes. Daghestan authorities have set a task to increase grape production.

According to Sharip Sharipov, to keep on attracting investors like processing enterprises will be helpful in this case.
Providing irrigation water to vineyards is far not perfect, too. Most of the existing ameliorative networks are in poor condition.

Participating heads of municipalities said they ready to find ways to bookmark the planned vineyard acreage.

Concluding the meeting, Khizri Shikhsaidov stressed that executive authorities need to strengthen control over activities under the viticulture development program. Daghestan National Assembly’s deputies will provide any assistance to the regions they are assigned to.
