Makhachkala, January 26, 2016. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said that Turkey wants to restore the Ottoman Empire in the region, IraqiNews reports. As to Iraqi prime minister, Tehran sees no evidence that Turkey is struggling with the "Islamic state."

"I think that the Turks should change priorities and stop treating the Kurds as their primary problem and to identify the main task of combating IS" - Haider al-Abadi said. He once again called on Ankara to withdraw its troops from Iraq and called Turkey's actions in the country inadmissible.

Turkey sent troops (150 Turkish soldiers and 20-25 tanks) to Iraq late in December, 2015. The Turkish authorities responded that the militaries were deployed at the request of Baghdad to train the local fighters against terrorists. The Iraqi authorities denied this version and appealed to the UN Security Council, demanding immediate withdrawal of Turkish troops from the country. As noted in the document, the presence of Turkish militants on Iraqi territory is a flagrant violation of international law and the UN Charter.
