Makhachkala, November 19, 2014. The first deputy Prime Minister RD Anatoly Karibov held a meeting on preparation of the draft law "On the languages of the peoples of Dagestan" and the program for the study of Russian and native languages of the ethnic groups living in the republic, the press service of the  Government reports. The event was attended by the representatives of ministries and departments, experts, scientists and other interested persons.

It is worth noting that the carriers of 28 separate languages live on the territory of Dagestan. The republic has 14 literary and 18 unwritten languages. The aAdoption of the law will establish the general principles of language policy in the republic, guarantees for their free development, regulation and use of the languages of the peoples of Dagestan.

According to Anatoly Karibov the draft law would establish a legal basis for the functioning of languages in the Republic of Dagestan and the duties of the state bodies in creation conditions for their learning and development.

As for the program for the study of Russian and native languages of the peoples of Dagestan, it is created to provide favorable conditions for the development and preservation of native languages. As part of the program, it is planned to expand the functions of the native languages as the state languages of the Republic of Dagestan, to familiarize students with the national culture, customs and traditions of the native peoples, his spiritual and moral values. Furthermore, such a document will preserve the culture of the peoples of Dagestan and harmonize interethnic relations.
