Gassan Idrisov participates in conference of parties of Framework Convention for protecting Caspian Sea’s Marine Environment

Makhachkala, May 30, 2014. As a member of the Russian delegation, Daghestan minister of natural resources and environment Gassan Idrisov is participating in the 5th session of the conference of parties to the Framework Convention for Protecting Caspian Sea’s Marine Environment (Tehran Convention) taking place in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat.

As the press service of Daghestan ministry of environment told RIA "Daghestan", the event also brought together officials from Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan.

The conference aims at strengthening and expanding international relations targeted at ensuring environmental security and sustainable development in the Caspian Sea region, as well as at preserving, restoring and rational use of its biological resources.

Member countries of the Framework Convention will discuss the progress of activities set by the program for protecting the Caspian Sea from contamination with land-based sources and on-land activities. This program was adopted at the conference’s 4th session held in Moscow 10-12 December, 2012.

The conference’s outcome will help determine the follow-up activities for managing human impacts on the marine environment and adopt joint solutions to prevent, reduce and control pollution of the Caspian Sea.

The Framework Convention for Protecting Caspian Sea’s Marine Environment was signed in Tehran 4 November, 2003, by 5 countries: Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan.
