Development of interregional relations in humanitarian sphere between Azerbaijan and Russia: promising directions and enhanced cooperation

Makhachkala, June 24, 2014. The most promising directions of interregional relations in the humanitarian sphere between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation have been discussed on June 23 at the V-th Russian-Azerbaijani inter-regional economic forum "Interregional cooperation: new opportunities for growth" in the city of Gabala, the press service of Daghestani Head reports.

In particular, the parties touched upon the problems related to humanitarian, scientific, educational and cultural cooperation, enhanced cooperation in the field of youth exchanges, information and social spheres.
Sergei Medvedev, the head of the Russian Center for International Scientific and Cultural Cooperation in the Federal Agency for CIS Affairs, compatriots living abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation moderated the "round table".

Having described the development of interregional relations between Russia and Azerbaijan in the humanitarian field, Daghestani Minister of National Policy Alexey Gasanov pointed out intense fraternal relations among peoples of both countries, formed since ancient times. As to Alexey Gasanov, the traditional economic and cultural ties strengthened the belief that the all-Caucasus integration processes and mutually beneficial cooperation will be expanded and become more cooperative and constructive.

"Today, Daghestan has an appropriate legal basis on which versatile relations with Azerbaijan are developing. The main argument confirming it is the Memorandum on Friendship and Cooperation, signed on March 5, 1996 based on the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation and Mutual Security between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Daghestani Head Ramazan Abdulatipov has brought new opportunities to interregional relations. Last year on December 26, within the framework of a working visit to Azerbaijan, Daghestani Leader met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. The parties addressed the major aspects of the bilateral cooperation in various fields, including the progress of implementation of major joint industrial and infrastructure projects, "- Gassanov resumed.

In conclusion, Daghestani Minister reminded the importance of the efficient use of geo-political and geo-strategic position of Daghestan in Russia, meaning the development of mutually beneficial trade and economic relations between the border areas of Daghestan, Azerbaijan and Georgia, taking into account the formation of modern transport and communication systems, logistics centers, which serve as an important instrument to attract  investors into the republic.
