Derbent’s anniversary about developing city’s social potential firstly – Sergey Melikov

Derbent, January 29, 2015. Russian President’s Plenipotentiary Envoy in the North Caucasus Federal District Sergey Melikov, who is on a visit to Dagestan, went to Derbent to assess how good the city is prepared to celebrate their 2,000th anniversary. He was accompanied by Dagestan Head Ramazan Abdulatipov and Deputy Minister of North Caucasus Affairs Odes Baissultanov.

The anniversary of the oldest Russian city in the country will be celebrated in September 2015 following the Russian President’s Decree.
The dignitaries visited the Museum of world cultures and religions freshly opened in Derbent where they saw the exhibition of world cultures and the exposure named "There used to be a city. Derbent."

Then, the guests headed for the city hall to have a meeting of the working group on preparations for celebrating the 2,000th anniversary of Derbent. The festivity is all about boosting the social potential of the city. Sergey Melikov emphasized that Derbent does have a potential for further development, and it ought to be effectively used. In order to facilitate coordination in preparation for the anniversary, the envoy suggested they hold further meetings regularly, the nearest one being in March.

The participants stressed they needed to bring restoration of Naryn-Kala the fortress as one of the most important issues of preparations for the celebrating the Derbent’s anniversary before the federal organizing committee.
