Defense Ministry: 20 ships conduct drills in Caspian Flotilla

Makhachkala, May 13, 2015. About 20 ships and 400 military conducted drills in contra-submarine sabotage defense in the Caspian flotilla, the press service of the Southern Military District reported on Tuesday.

"Drills in contra-submarine sabotage defense were conducted at the naval base of the Caspian Flotilla in Astrakhan and Makhachkala. The exercise assembled more than 20 surface ships, boats and ships, and about 400 servicemen of naval forces," runs the statement.

The exercise script said they had information of a possible terrorist attack in the naval base with underwater sabotage groups of an imaginary enemy.
The first phase of the drills, the operational desk signaled an alarm to the ships which were quickly prepared for a battle and campaign, the screws were barred over to demolish the imaginary enemy frogmen, and the armed watch was set on alert.

During the second phase, the patrol and duty boats left the mooring. Duty forces analyzed the situation in the waters of the naval base using hydroacoustic stations to observe the underwater environment. Then, they would throw drill grenades in various areas of the route to destruct the imaginary saboteurs.

At the drills, they also trained the military and civilian personnel’s behavior after detection of explosive devices on the territory of military units.
