Daghestan Head: "We must live on our own resources – development sources"

Makhachkala, June 19, 2014. On June 18, Daghestan Head Ramazan Abdulatipov met with heads of Tarumovka and Lak regions to get to know their socio-economic situation, a source in the press service of Daghestani Head and government administration told RIA "Daghestan".

The head of Lak region Yussup Magomedov reported on agricultural development – the leading sector of the region’s economy. In 2013, investment in the fixed capital fr om all financial sources amounted to RUB 415.5 million, which is 113.6% of the plan. The local budget financed construction of 2 first aid stations to be put into operation soon. In order to improve the water supply in the region’s center, they laid a water pipe 3.5 km long providing water to several villages.

A private investor is building a ceremonial hall with a hotel complex for 30, a bath and a laundry in Kumukh village. Private investments also fund a forthcoming construction of 2 small hydropower plants on Kazikumukh Koisu river. In the "Inisha" agricultural production cooperative, they established a cattle complex for 150 cows; a flour shop was commissioned in the "Spark" cooperative. In Hulisma village, they built a milk processing plant to be commissioned early June; they plan to open a trout farm in Burshi village. They’ve developed investment projects for producing cheese, meat, and vegetables. In Bagikla and Burshi villages, they also plan to build recreation and tourism fascilities.

The head of Tarumovka region Marina Abramkina reported that her region, one of the biggest in Daghestan, is greatly supported through developing distant-pasture cattle farms. This economic segment is raising standards of living and employment; people are provided with wool, meat, milk, which in turn adds to the tax base. "Tarumovka region is quite promising to date; we have land and labour force. It is critical for us to develop the coastal area, particularly fish production, because 80% of pond fish is produced in Tarumovka region. In addition, the possible point of growth for the future is setting up greenhouses wh ere incomes are much larger as to with soil farming. In Tarumovka village, they established an investment site for building a modern multifunctional medical center in a public-private partnership," Abramkina said.

Speaking to the municipal heads, Ramazan Abdulatipov stressed, "We must live on their own resources - sources of development, but in order to make them work, we need to create effective development institutions."
