Dagestan to host regular sitting of Group of Strategic Vision Russia-Islamic World

Makhachkala, March 18, 2019. The regular meeting of the Group of Strategic Vision Russia-Islamic World with the participation of representatives from 34 countries will be held on November 12 in Dagestan city of Kaspiysk, the Group coordinator Veniamin Popov said.

"There are more than 30 foreign participants and about 40 ones from Russia. The foreign participants represent such states as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Jordan. All of them are represented by major figures" – Popov is quoted saying. The official poined out that the heads of Chechnya, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia will attend the event too.

According to Popov, the meeting participants are expected to discuss various projects, one of which relates to the young leaders’ school: “Special attention will be paid to working with the young people and education - we want to create the young leaders’ school in several states.” This is a way to expand interaction between Russia and Muslim countries. Popov explained the active participation of the republic of Dagestan by its position in the Muslim world and very deep roots of the Islamic faith.”

The Russia-Islamic World strategic vision group was established in 2006 under the leadership of Academician Yevgeny Primakov and the first President of Tatarstan, Mintimer Shaimiev. The structure includes 33 state and public figures from Muslim countries, including former prime ministers, foreign ministers and famous theologians. "Naturally, we still have many representatives of the Russian intelligentsia" Popov noted, adding that nowadays "the president of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov chairs the group."
