Dagestan sends humanitarian aid to Syrians

Makhachkala, June 19, 2017. On June 18, a delegation consisted of the representatives of the Muftiate, Dagestan Committee on Freedom of Conscience and Cooperation with Religious Organizations (Dagcomrelilygia) and the Insan charitable foundation flew to Syria with humanitarian aid for the local residents suffered from military actions.

The delegation was headed by Magomed Abdurakhmanov, the chairman of Dagestan Committee on Freedom of Conscience. In particular, Abdurakhmanov noted that the donation campaign for the people of Syria kicked off on May 13 with the support of Dagestani Head Ramazan Abdulatipov and Dagesatn Government and all these funds would be used primarily for Syrian children.
"Earlier, at the meeting with the representatives of Syria, the chairman of Dagestan Government Abdussamad Gamidov stated that Dagestani children's health improving camps were ready to receive Syrian children. However, because of the difficult situation in the country, the Syrian authorities couldn’t ensure safe transportation of children to Dagestan. Thus, Dagestan Government came to the fact that it would be easier to deliver humanitarian aid to Syria."- M. Abdurakhmanov said.

According to Abdurakhmanov, the trip become possible due to the agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and the Syrian Embassy in Moscow.
In turn, the press service of Dagestan Committee on Freedom of Conscience noted that a special working group was established to provide humanitarian aid to the Syrians under the Council for Interaction with Religious Associations at the Russian President.

Besides, the representative of Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, Hieromonk Stephen (Igumnov), headed the working group which included the representatives of all federal agencies involved in the events in Syria: the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry for Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Customs Service, as well as the representatives of religious associations and the Muslim clergy.
