On April 12, as part of his working trip to Dagestan, the First Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation Dmitry Glushko met with the Acting Head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov. The parties focused on the development of the WorldSkills movement in the republic, the organization of hot meals in schools and providing people with the opportunity to master new professions.

Speaking about the results of the meeting, Dmitry Glushko noted: “We discussed some issues related to the development of the education system, primarily the regional system of secondary vocational education. The work of colleges at present is aimed not only at training school graduates, but also at teaching new competencies, retraining people to increase their mobility and stability in the labor market. Therefore, we agreed to continue working on involving Dagestan colleges into the federal competition for subsidies for the development of professional workshops. This year, for example, following the results of the previous year, 8 workshops will be created - in mechanical engineering, in the IT industry, and so on".

Another key area of cooperation, according to the federal top official, may become the adult population retraining system. For this purpose, a number of federal programs had been launched. For example, the “50+ Program” for older people, as well as the retraining program for 110 thousand citizens who are unemployed or have the risk of losing their jobs. “The set of competencies is very large, there are more than 100 of them in the regions. This allows any person to acquire practical skills, including in the hospitality industry, the IT sphere, because today every person needs digital skills,” Dmitry Glushko explained.

Special attention was paid to the training of specialists for the tourism sector: “We discussed the possibility of creating a system of training competencies for the hospitality industry. In this regard, the region has great potential: Dagestan has recently experienced a tourism boom, and it is very important to teach people to provide services in this area. There is a tradition of hospitality here. We need to develop and support them. This approach will only increase the flow of tourists. "An equally important area of cooperation will be the organization of free hot meals for primary school attendees. According to Glushko, there are a large number of small schools in the republic which lack catering units.

During the meeting, an issue related to the Young Professionals movement (WorldSkills Russia) was also discussed. “The republic, like other regions of Russia, participates in the WorldSkills movement and holds regional championships. We see that the number of competencies is gradually increasing.

The WorldSkills movement is extremely important, because through it we transfer the training requirements from the world community of experts in various competencies to what a person should be able to perform at a production site and to the requirements for the place itself. And this allows to define and very quickly update training and retraining technologies. Therefore, it is participation in WorldSkills that allows the requirements and practice of teaching modern competencies to be transferred to all age categories of citizens of our country and the republic. The professional workshops, the centers of excellence are a consequence of development of the WorldSkills movement” - Glushko concluded.
